That is the Autumn Conservative Conference 2022 done. Unfortunalty I couldn't make conference this year. There is no doubt if you went or have ever been to the Conservative Party Conference you know it's unique. It brings together decision-makers, ministers, elected officials, members and businesses in the biggest annual political event in Europe. With that in mind and the stark contrast in various media reports I thought it would be useful to highlight the key messages from the past 4 days. Following on from the Prime Minister Liz Truss speach where she outlined our plan to Get Britain Moving, I hope you find the below useful.
OUR GROWTH PLAN
We face huge challenges. Carrying on with business-as-usual is not an option. We need to do things differently to grow our economy, get Britain moving and deliver a brighter future for us all by:
- Getting the economy growing. Getting our economy growing will lead to higher wages, greater opportunities and long-term sustainable funding for public services.
- Reducing energy bills. Our Energy Price Guarantee means a typical household will save around £1,000 a year and businesses will pay less than half the wholesale prices expected this winter.
- Cutting taxes. We are cutting taxes to help over 30 million people keep more of what they earn. A typical earner will pay around £430 less tax next year, and lower taxes for businesses will help them grow and create more jobs across the country.
- Delivering better infrastructure. We will build infrastructure like roads, railways, and broadband more quickly by unlocking private investment and cutting red tape with Investment Zones providing exciting opportunities across the UK and driving growth.
- Managing the economy responsibly. We are committed to reducing debt as a proportion of our national income to make sure that we protect our economy for the long term
KEY EXAMPLES
Tax Cuts - Our tax cuts for over 30 million people will put £430 back in the pockets of a typical worker next year through reductions in income tax and national insurance.
- A typical family moving into a semi-detached property will save £2,500 on Stamp Duty.
- Reversing the rise in corporation tax puts almost £70 billion into the economy, helping it to grow by giving businesses the freedom to reinvest, boost wages and create jobs.
Energy- The Energy Price Guarantee means a typical household bill will be £2,500 a year, saving them around £1,000. We will also keep the Energy Bill Support Scheme giving households £400 off their bills this winter.
- Some low-income households will receive more in support than the rises they face in energy bills. For example, a household in receipt of means tested benefits with typical fuel use is eligible for £150 more in support than their increase in energy bills.
- The Energy Bill Relief Scheme for businesses, charities and public sector organisations means they will pay less than half the wholesale prices anticipated this winter.
Supply side reforms. - Our new Investment Zones will drive growth and unlock new housing by liberalising planning, offering tax incentives, and giving wider support to local economies that have been left behind for too long.
- We will stop Labour-backed strike action from slowing down Britain by introducing Minimum Service Levels for transport services, meaning militant strike action cannot derail economic growth.
- We are accelerating major infrastructure projects to get Britain building again including new roads railways, broadband and energy that will help grow our economy.
I hope you found that useful, don't forget if you want to make a difference we are always looking for candidates and volunteers. If you want to get more involved and help, we need people like you to help elect Conservatives across Romsey and Southampton North. The best way that you can get involved is through campaigning with us. We need support all over from Bassett and Swaythling to Romsey Abbey, Ampfield and Braishfield, Blackwater, Broughton and Stockbridge, Chilworth, Nursling and Rownhams, Cupernham, Dun Valley, Harewood, King’s Somborne and Michelmersh, North Baddesley, Over Wallop, Romsey Extra, Tadburn, and Valley Park.
Best Wishes
