This week in Westminster we have been considering the Health and Social Care Bill, with some important amendments and new clauses brought forward by the Government.  I know there has been criticism of the new plans, but they will increase from £23,250 to £100,000 the threshold of the upper capital limit and will set a cap at £86,000 for care costs. I absolutely appreciate that the changes are  not good enough for some people, but I am concerned that we could not leave matters as they are currently, we have been arguing about what the changes should look like for too long already.  I accept the changes are not perfect, but it improves the current situation.

I had my own amendment to the Bill debated on Tuesday, promoting a licensing regime for non surgical cosmetic aesthetic procedures, which many local practitioners have raised with me over the course of the last 18 months. I am particularly grateful to those who took the time to explain their own training and standards, which are considerable, and to  highlight the horror stories they all had of remedial work they had been asked to carry out when procedures had gone wrong.  It may have seemed a side issue to the important considerations around workforce planning, virginity testing and hymenoplasty, but I was pleased to be able to represent the views of constituents who had been in touch with me.

Last week Romsey Show held its Winter Fayre in the Crosfield Hall, which saw me start my Christmas shopping.  We also have Small Business Saturday coming up, which I always use as a great excuse to get out and support local small businesses, and get my Christmas well and truly under way.  I know it has been incredibly tough for traders over the course of 2020 and 2021, but one thing I have discovered is the small traders are often much better at getting in stock the things we all need and want.   Finally huge congratulations to the Romsey Male Voice Choir for their Generations Concert last weekend, what a lovely celebration of the talent we have here in Romsey.
