The return of mandatory face masks in shops and on public transports has featured heavily in my postbag this week, with the majority of correspondents being broadly in favour. In fact many constituents had been in touch ahead of the announcement asking for them to be required. I am not sure I have met anyone who likes wearing them much, but most recognise the importance of trying to keep the spread of covid minimised.
I have welcomed the ramping up of the booster programme as well, which I know has been a frustration locally. I am pleased to see more centres opening again and would encourage people to get the booster as soon as possible.
Last weekend saw the Winter Carnival, the Lantern Parade and the switch on of the Christmas lights in Romsey. The town is looking incredible, with a fabulous Christmas tree and lights, none of which happens my magic. So many thanks to all involved in the events and getting the lights up, not to mention the thousands who turned out on a freezing cold evening. It was great to see so many out enjoying themselves, and it really does begin to feel like Christmas (although that could be the flurry of snow falling as I write this). There are lots of Christmas events coming up over the next few weeks, which I am really looking forward to, not least Small Business Saturday this weekend, a good day to get out and support small business in the area.
